Launched at the last Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Nespresso Grand Prize the Critics’ Week, the mystical western of Oliver Laxe will be distributed in France by Ufo distribution on 24 August. The film received rave reviews by the world press which highlighted both the majestic beauty of the images, the mystery of this spiritual quest and a captivating staging.
Mimosas also enchants the summer festivals. After a Special Mention for Best Director at the Art Film Festival (Slovakia), the film was scheduled this summer at Moscow International Film Festival (Russia). Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (Czech Republic), Queensland film Festival and the Melbourne International film Festival (Australia), New Horizons International film Festival (Poland). The film was also presented to the Spanish Screenings in Madrid and the resumption of the Critics’ Week in Beirut.
Finally, this fall Mimosas travel to the Toronto International Film Festival (Canada) at the BFI London Film Festival (UK), at the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma in Montreal (Quebec) and the 39. Mostra Internacional de Cinema de São Paulo ( Brazil) and the Busan International film Festival (South Korea).
A caravan escorts an elderly and dying Sheikh trough the Moroccan Atlas. His last wish is to be buried with his loved ones. But death does not wait. The caravaneers, fearful of the mountain pass, refuse to continue transporting the corpse. Ahmed and Said, two rogues traveling with the caravan, promise to take the body to its destiny. But do they really know the way? In another world, parallel and remote, Shakib is chosen to travel to the mountains where the caravan is. His assignment is clear: he has to help the improvised caravaneers to reach their destination. Shakib also doubts, this is his first mission.
